Leaving a legacy

Making a will is one of those jobs that is often put off for fear of tempting fate or simply deemed unnecessary, but there are many legal implications and possible difficulties if you don’t.

Making a will is not a difficult or expensive process. Not only does it give you peace of mind in knowing that your family will be provided for, but it is the only way to ensure your possessions and property are distributed as you wish in the event of your death. Once you have ensured your family have been provided for, a legacy is a wonderful way of helping others. Most charities rely heavily on voluntary income, a major part of which comes from legacies. Should you wish to include a bequest to MedicAlert® in your will, you can be assured that your gift would help us to continue our valuable work of saving lives.

If you decide to incorporate a bequest to MedicAlert®, your solicitor will prepare the wording for you, but here are possible examples for you to consider.

A residuary bequest:

I give all (or a share of) the residue of my estate to The MedicAlert Foundation of: 1 Bridge Wharf, 156 Caledonian Road, London N1 9UU. Registered Charity Number 233705 for its general charitable purposes.

A pecuniary bequest:

I give to The MedicAlert Foundation of: 1 Bridge Wharf, 156 Caledonian Road, London N1 9UU. Registered Charity Number 233705, the sum of £ (exact figure and words) for its general charitable purposes.

A specific bequest:

I give to The MedicAlert Foundation of: 1 Bridge Wharf, 156 Caledonian Road, London N1 9UU. Registered Charity Number 233705, my (description of item or property) for its general charitable purposes.
